BEST PICTURE!!!
Achievement in Directing
Original Screenplay
Achievement in Sound Editing
YES YES YES!
OMEDATOU!!!
Complete list: http://oscar.com/nominees/?pn=list
Although our beloved Kazu wasn't nominated, I think this is already a great achievement for the film and all the crew involved since it got nominated for [Best Picture]. I'm sure Nino would definitely be sharing in this glory ne! Besides, Nino's supporting actor category happens to be one of the most competitive category yo! To be taken notice by critics and having people be more aware of him, Nino has done a great job to come this far!
Until the list came out, it seems that not many held great hopes for the film to be nominated. Especially with the various "disadvantages" that the film was having. But it is now being nominated in the 2 big awards category! I find this really fantastic! No doubt more people (who are initially disinterested) will take notice of [Letters] and possibly go to watch it to see why it is nominated. More exposure ne!
Afterall, this is only Nino's very first foray into Hollywood. I'm sure many more great works would come from our Kazu-chan ne!

We all know how comedic Nino is. To know where he horned his skills, just check him out in anything Arashi with special mention to GnoArashi. *cough*especially Aiba's Board Game*cough*
"Stand Up" would be a good choice too. XDDDD
Edit: Some news from Japan Zone
More Praise for "Letters..."
"Letters from Iwo Jima" is building up steam. The second of Clint Eastwood's two WWII sagas has received more accolades in the U.S., being chosen as the top movie of 2006 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association on Sunday, and ranked by the American Film Institute in their top 10 movies for the year. Like its companion piece "Flags of Our Fathers" it is a Hollywood project, but all the dialog is in Japanese. While this was thought to make it a rank outsider for any major awards, the talk about it competing for Academy Awards on February 25 is now building. Eastwood was in New York Sunday for a screening of "Letters..." followed by a reception at the Time Warner Center. Also there basking in the praise were star Watanabe Ken (47), his wife, actress Minami Kaho (42), and co-star Ihara Tsuyoshi (43). The movie opens in the U.S. on December 20, but it has already made a strong start at the box office here. It pulled in over ¥200 million on its opening day on Saturday and is expected to reach ¥5 billion, while "Flags..." totalled about ¥1.5 billion.

Another award for [Letters]!
Set for release Dec. 20, "Letters From Iwo Jima" stars Ken Watanabe and chronicles the battle from the perspective of Japanese soldiers defending the island against U.S. troops. The film comes just two months after Eastwood's "Flags of Our Fathers," which centers on the U.S. troops depicted in the legendary photo of the raising of the American flag on Iwo Jima.

"We meet Saigo (Kazunari Ninomiya), a baker who was shuffled off to the war and hopes to make it back to the simple life with his wife and child. Saigo irreverently curses the island, the war and his place in it. We are also introduced to Baron Nishi (Tsuyoshi Ihara), a former Olympic equestrian who, much like Kuribayashi, paradoxically shares fond memories of life in America."
"The three aforementioned performances head up what has to be seen as one of the year’s most organic and accomplished ensemble performances. The cast seems to live and breathe as something singular in that light, each character a part of a greater being. This makes the concentration on individuality in the film’s flashback sequences all the more poignant, sometimes more so than the greatest of American war cinema. Watanabe seems all but assured an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, and should the buzz really amp up, he’s got the stuff to steal the statue. Ninomiya also has enough heart-twisting moments to declare a place amongst the supporting actor regiment, should the snowball continue to build."

I hope to hear more reviews about Nino' performance other than the overall reviews! =)
"Eastwood deliberately casts only a few actors and extras so as to emphasize the smallness of the Japanese forces. Saigo (Kazunari Ninomiya, who is just terrific) is a baker whose only desire is to return to Japan to see a daughter born since his departure. Baron Nishi (Tsuyoshi Ihara) is a well-known equestrian champion who competed in the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles. His presence leads to a surreal scene in which the baron chats with a dying American soldier about his experiences in Los Angeles and friendships with Hollywood personalities."
- By Kirk Honeycutt (The Hollywood Reporter)
"At the opposite end of the hierarchy are Saigo (Kazunari Ninomiya), a
simple baker and mildly impudent everyman who longs only to see his
infant daughter, and the sensitive Shimizu (Ryo Kase), whose
shortcomings as an MP have earned him this lamentable posting. With
rabid exceptions, the Japanese here are dedicated, ready to kill the
enemy and resigned to whatever their fates may be, even as they may
have mixed minds about fighting and mostly wish they were somewhere
else."

Just yesterday, Aishoni was talking about some of the rave reviews that [Letters from Iwo Jima] was given by people who have seen the film in her vox. For people who visited the IMDb board, you would have known that from the few who have seen [Letters], Nino was very much praised for his fantastic performance in the movie.
This morning, I woke up and check out Sakura Mars and twothreefour vox and there was the many news that [Letters] was awarded the Best Picture award. And then there was the news about it with Nino's pictures on them.
I feel so proud, happy and touched for Nino. Soon, it will be premiere in the U.S and I would really like to know what more people who have watch the movie think of the film! (More specifically, what they think of Nino's performance.) December 20th! Please come quickly! T___T
Although I sometimes feel that I don't want to share Arashi with all of the world yet (irrational fangirl logic? XD), but I think our boys deserve nothing but the best. Especially when they always put in their best effort for whatever they do in their jobs. Also, I believe that Nino will always be Nino. He will be Arashi's Nino because they love each other and love to work with each other as a group. Not to mention, Nino is practically Arashi's Number. 1 fan. LOL.
ARASHI RABU 最高!

They have the trailer with English subtitles.
It is so great that they didn't blur out Nino's face or made him into a shadow. XDDD
They also introduce Nino like this:
